Brock Carmichael take China
Liverpool architects, Brock Carmichael, have seen off competition from around the world to win work on two impressive projects in China.
Unusually for BCA, they have focussed their proposals in China around master planning for large, mixed-use developments, as opposed to individual building design.
Their successful masterplan for a 52-hectare Tianjin site includes a marina, a yacht club, a hotel, 200 villas and apartment blocks containing 2,800 homes; and saw off some fierce rivals, including architects who had worked on the The Palm artificial Islands in Dubai.
BCA will also work alongside Hong Kong practise, Oval Partnerships on masterplans for a 3.5 million sq m urban regeneration plan in the city of Kunming - a development so vast, it would cover all of Liverpool City Centre.
BCA accredit Liverpool's Pavillion at the world expo for whetting their appetite for projects in China and are keen to positively promote the city further.
Partner Michael Cosser said, "We're conscious that we're flying the UK flag and the Liverpool flag. We're a Liverpool firm competing against companies with 2,000 people."
