Federation of Small Businesses conference generates £1.5m for Liverpool economy
National political figures from the major parties will be flocking to Liverpool today and tomorrow vying to win the hearts and minds of owners of small businesses.
Prime Minister David Cameron, Business secretary Vince Cable and opposition leader Ed Miliband will all be taking part in the Federation of Small Businesses annual conference being held at the BT Convention Centre.
The small firms lobby group returns to Liverpool with its annual conference for the first time in 20 years, bringing £1.5m for the Merseyside economy.
Liverpool Lord Mayor Cllr Hazel Williams will opening the conference at the BT Convention Centre this morning in front of more than 600 delegates from around the UK.
Tomorrow features political heavyweights with a video message from Mr Cameron followed by a speech from business secretary Vince Cable and an address by Labour leader Ed Miliband at midday.
Minister for Business and Enterprise Mark Prisk will also conduct a question-and-answer session.
Liverpool journalist and TV presenter Peter Sissons is hosting a “question time panel” and Liverpool Daily Post editor Mark Thomas will open a business exhibition.
Senior figures from the region’s local authorities will also attend a black-tie dinner. FSB development manager Neil Dutton said:
“I have already met FSB members who travelled up early to spend time enjoying the sights.
“They have been amazed at the transformation of the city.”
