Liverpool hosts Captain America charity premiere for North West Cancer Research Fund

Blockbuster Captain America returned to Liverpool as the city hosted a special red carpet screening last night – two days before it goes on general release across the UK.

More than 300 comic book fans and VIPs had their first glimpse of the Marvel adaptation at Liverpool One’s Odeon cinema.

The charity regional premiere, which was organised by Liverpool City Council’s Film Office and regional creative industries development agency Vision and Media, supported the North West Cancer Research Fund.

Liverpool was chosen because it was used to shoot a key action sequence for the film, with Stanley Dock transformed into 1940s New York.

The production was a north west double success – with Manchester used for other scenes in the 3D movie.

Around 500 cast and crew including the star Chris Evans descended on Stanley Dock to film scenes last September.

Anne Jackson, chief executive of North West Cancer Research Fund, said: “It was a massive honour for NWCRF because you think of all the big charities in the area they could have chosen.

“It was amazing to be the chosen charity for such an important event. Our cancer research isn’t glamorous but the night was ultra glamorous.”
