City prepares for biggest ever conference
Liverpool's economy is in line for a £20m-plus boost, with up to 20,000 people expected to attend the Labour Party Conference, including delegates, journalists and lobbyists.
The four-day event will be the biggest conference the city has ever hosted.
The open day will be on the final day of the conference, Wednesday September 28.
The events are free but people need to apply to attend the event by Tuesday, August 30.
Labour leader Ed Miliband will answer questions directly from Liverpool residents when the party conference is held in the city next month.
Thousands of Merseyside people will receive letters in the next few days inviting them to a special open day at the conference which is being held at the ECHO Arena and BT Convention Centre.
The Labour Party said people were being invited by random but residents will also be able to apply to attend the groundbreaking meeting via the internet.
It will be the first time the Labour Party has opened its conference up to none members on a large scale.
A party source said it was hoped around 2,000 people would attend the question and answer session with Mr Miliband.
Wallasey MP Angela Eagle, Labour’s shadow chief secretary to the Treasury, who will be part of Labour’s team at the open day, said: “It’s great that we are holding the Labour Party Annual Conference in Liverpool for the very first time and I’m delighted Ed Miliband is opening up Labour Party conference to the British public to ensure that Labour stands for the issues that matter across our country.
“Liverpool is a city with real character and we are excited to be bringing Labour’s flagship event to the city.
“I’d encourage people to come along, get involved and be part of something very special.”
