Mark Prisk visits Liverpool’s London embassy for enterprise talks
Mark Prisk MP, minister for Business and Enterprise, has visited the Liverpool Embassy to discover more about the business offer in the city.
Greeted by Max Steinberg, chief executive of Liverpool Vision, responsible for running the embassy for the city, discussions focussed on business support and entrepreneurship.
Mr Steinberg said: “As the preparations continue apace for Liverpool hosting the prestigious Global Entrepreneurship Congress next March, we saw it as vital to bring the Minister up to speed with our plans and what the city is doing in terms of business growth.
“Liverpool is meeting the challenge of the current economic climate on several fronts and we at Liverpool Vision, and others who took part in our informal discussion, were able to give Mr Prisk a good understanding of how enterprise is being embedded at every level.
“Mark Prisk knows Liverpool well and has spoken of his admiration at the city’s recent renaissance, so we were pleased to hear about his ambition to allow Liverpool to shape its own future with the assistance of the Government through the LEPs.”
Others who met with the Minister included, Paul Brant, deputy leader of the Labour Group; Ged Fitzgerald, chief executive of Liverpool City Council; Maggie O’Carroll, Founder and Chief Executive of The Women’s Organisation; Jade Parkinson-Hill of North Liverpool Academy and Ann Jordan of TiE.
Ged Fitzgerald and Paul Brant talked through some of the enterprise projects the Council is involved in, including giving every school £1,000 for enterprise activities, while Jade Parkinson-Hill explained how North Liverpool Academy is working with their young entrepreneurs to assist them into self employment.
Private sector representatives at the meeting included Ian Robinson of Ian Robinson & Associates, William Sharpe, partner at Weightmans and James Scott-Gatty, Chief Financial Officer for Cheviot London all of whom spoke about business in Liverpool and some of the challenges their businesses face in the current economic climate.
