Merseyside restaurants win record mentions in Good Food Guide 2012
A record number of restaurants in Merseyside have been name-checked in the respected Which Good Food Guide 2012, which is due out next month.
Across Merseyside and Cheshire, 16 restaurants have been singled out for praise, with Fraiche in Oxton and Simon Radley at the Chester Grosvenor both in The Good Food Guide’s prestigious Top50 Restaurants list.
Spire in Allerton was named Readers' Restaurant of the Year for the North West. There are first-time mentions for Host on Hope Street, Lunya in Liverpool One and Aiden Byrne at The Collingwood gastropub in West Kirby, as well as Joseph Benjamin and Michael Caines at ABode, both in Chester.
The guide has re-listed Da Piero in Irby, Delifonseca, The London Carriage Works, The Side Door, 60 Hope Street, Bistrot Verite in Southport, 1539 Restaurant & Bar in Chester and Aiden Byrne at The Church Green in Lymm.
Mr Byrne was delighted to see both of his restaurants included in this year’s guide and said: “I'm absolutely thrilled that both the Church Green and Collingwood have been included in this year’s guide – it’s a great honour.
“The ethos of both venues is great food, accessible to all and it seems our customers think we are achieving this, which is amazing.”
Similarly Gary Manning, director of 60 Hope Street and Host, was celebrating a double victory.
He said: “We’re delighted that Host has been acknowledged in the guide. Host has continued to grow in popularity thanks to more and more people opting to try eastern-infused foods – once they get a taste for it, they come back time and time again. We’re also proud that 60 Hope Street has once again been recognised.
The ethos across all of our restaurants is in sourcing local, fresh, seasonal produce, which we believe has enabled us to receive such an recommendation.”
Brothers Matt and Adam Locke are toasting winning Spire’s readers' restaurant of the year award.
Adam said: “We’re over the moon. Last year we were included in the guide, but most of the time the big awards go to city centre restaurants – you can get a bit forgotten about in the suburbs.
“But awards like this are about the food and the service, rather than the location. To think that our local customers helped us to win makes it all the more special.”
Another restaurant celebrating a return to the guide is Delifonseca. Owner Candice Fonseca said: “We are delighted to have made the guide for a second year running. We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the customers who recommended us, as we really couldn't do it without their continued support.”
