Mike McCartney’s musical bin helps keep Mathew Street tidy

Mike McCartney unveiled his singing bin with the words “I have ‘bin’ asked to officially open the worlds first singing bin.”

He ceremonially chucked a copy of The Sun newspaper into the Mathew Street rubbish bin, prompting a recording of Thank U Very Much to blast out.

The ex-Scaffold star said: “My father used to be a bin inspector, so it makes me very proud to be the voice of the first singing bin. I’ve got great respect for bin men, without them imagine what a rubbish world it would be. This is a lovely daft idea that will hopefully get people picking up rubbish to make it sing.”

Talking about his brother’s wedding, he said: “Now that was not rubbish at all.

“It was a great day. A really lovely, big family occasion.

“All of the McCartney mafia came down for the party afterwards, but there were too many of us to fit in for the ceremony.

“We were up partying until about three in the morning.

“The neighbours came to complain about the noise, but I was complaining about Mark Ronson’s choice of music. I said he should play some Scaffold tracks.

“But he didn’t have any, imagine that!”
