North West construction industry honoured
The region's construction sector was last night honoured at the fifth annual North West Regional Construction Awards, with the Lend Lease-developed MediaCity scheme winning the Project of the Year Award.
The event, organised by the Centre for Construction Innovation (CCI), handed out 17 awards to winners selected from more than 100 nominations. Manchester City Council picked up three awards, including the Client of the Year Award, while the Workington River Crossing project received a special judges’ award.
Other winners included Rochdale-based contractor Jackson Jackson & Sons, which won SME of the Year, and Recipro (formerly known as BuilderScrap) which won the Business Innovation award. Willmott Dixon Construction was also named Contractor of the Year.
Roy Stewart, chief executive at CCI, said: "To have received such a large number of entries is testament to the resilience and forward thinking mentality of the North West’s construction sector.
"The submissions raise the bar each year and I would like to praise both the winners and finalists in making the region a pioneer for sustainability in construction."
