RS Clare reports 20% rise in exports

RS Clare, which produces specialist lubricants for the oil and gas industry, says exports are already up 20% so far this year.

Chairman and chief executive Ian Meadows told LDP Business that employee numbers were up by the same percentage.

The Stanhope Street firm, which also services the rail, car, steel and construction sectors, will tomorrow receive the Queen’s Award for International Trade from Dame Lorna Muirhead, the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside.

Mr Meadows said the workforce expansion was vital to enable it to “cope with increased demands on the business”.

He added: “Progress is being made on a broad front.

“Sales of our road marking materials are nearly double last year, anti-skid surfacing is running at three times last year’s first half and the oil and gas sector has grown by a third.”

RS Clare was founded in 1748 and has been based at its current site since 1795.

It exports to more than 30 countries worldwide, with exports accounting for almost 50% of its £12m turnover.

New markets include Africa, Syria, Romania, Gabon, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Its gate valve lubricants are used by several major oil companies globally, and the China market is opening up for all its product sectors.

Dame Lorna Muirhead will present the Queen’s Award at a ceremony tomorrow. She will be joined by Prof Helen Carty, the High Sheriff of Merseyside.

Prof Carty will present a gold watch for 25 years of loyal service to John Monaghan, RS Clare’s stock controller, the 10th employee to receive one.

Afterwards, there will be a photoshoot to include the whole RS Clare team while guests will mingle with staff over a buffet lunch.

The party will then tour the works and inspect a £100,000 investment in a new filling line.

Mr Meadows said the Queen’s Award would “enhance our credibility globally”.
