Think Tank The Future Lab joins GEC programme

The Future Laboratory think tank that labelled Liverpool as one of the world’s top ten creative hubs is to hold its first event in the city.

“Brand strategy and innovation team” The Future Laboratory will hold an event alongside the Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC) in March.

The company was invited to Liverpool by PR and marketing agency Think.

Martin Raymond, one of The Future Laboratory’s founders, will give two “trend briefings” on Friday, March 16.

The first, “Betapreneurial Futures”, will focus on entrepreneurialism in a digital landscape – while the second, Consumer Futures, will focus on the needs and behaviours of consumers.

Mr Raymond said: “A decade ago, when we established The Future Laboratory, Liverpool featured in our top ten creative and culture hubs to watch for the 21st century.

“Quite a few brands pushed back on this at the time. Happily, Liverpool has proved them wrong.

“Its art, culture, media and innovation scene is already beginning to make waves; so much so we've added it to our list of key cities we now do regular trend and innovation briefings in

“Others include New York, London, Melbourne, Stockholm and Sydney – all cities that share a common theme and hunger for newness, innovation, change, challenge and diversity. They are key attributes to find in cities that will thrive over the coming decade of turbulence and uncertainty.”

Phil Nixon, agency director, at Think, said: “We have worked with The Future Laboratory for some years now and their insight into behavioural trends across business and consumer sectors is truly unique.

“This will be The Future Laboratory’s first ever briefing in Liverpool and I’m proud to say it is being powered by Think. We anticipate demand to be high for tickets, as a stand-out event on the festival calendar.

“We hope The Future Laboratory’s arrival in Liverpool will inspire and encourage entrepreneurs in the city and beyond to look at their business with new eyes.”

Max Steinberg, chief executive of regeneration agency Liverpool Vision, said: “This will be one of the highlights of our global festival of entrepreneurship and I am delighted that a company of their calibre has chosen Liverpool.

“It, and all those holding events as part of the festival and those coming to the Global Entrepreneurship Congress, will find here a city ready to listen, willing to learn and city committed to fostering the spirit of enterprise and innovation.”
